About the Jeep Gladiator

The idea behind the Gladiator is simple, it offers the offroad capabilities of the iconic Wrangler, but in pickup form. And while the styling might look like it’s just a Wrangler with a pickup box stuck on the back, the Gladiator comes with a wheelbase that’s 19.4 inches longer than the Wrangler’s, different powertrain options, and a much higher towing capacity. This is the vehicle for when you have a lot of cargo that has to go offroad with you. This is thanks in part to an available diesel V6 engine, which produces some seriously impressive torque, and is the reason why the Gladiator’s 7,700-pound maximum towing capacity is the best in its class. The payload capacity of 1,710 pounds is also a best-in-class rating, and the fact that the Gladiator can do this while also being one of the best offroad vehicles on the market is the very definition of versatility.

What the Critics Say

“Along with its five-foot cargo bed, the Gladiator is filled with ingenious interior storage options. Its cabin has a handful of spots to stick a smartphone and a handy compartment hidden under the back seat. The seats themselves can be stowed in multiple ways and then securely locked in place for when the trail turns treacherous.” — Car & Driver

“The Jeep Gladiator Rubicon is very easy to like. This burly off-road machine does almost anything the Jeep Wrangler can do, but it's also a practical pickup with a useful bed design and healthy payload and tow ratings. Inside, the cabin is nicely trimmed and easy to live with. It offers a more spacious back seat than any of its closest rivals too. And don't forget: It's the only convertible pickup.” — Edmunds

What’s New For 2023

There aren’t any major changes to the Gladiator for 2023, but the small changes are likely to be appreciated. The Willys trim gets some more standard equipment, including keyless entry and a remote start. For the High Altitude trim, there is now an available Capability Package, which includes a steel front bumper that’s rated for winch use, steel rock sliders, and an offroad camera. A steel front bumper and rock sliders are also a major component of the Freedom Package, which is technically a separate trim, but is mainly a Sport S with the aforementioned steel components and some military-themed appearance touches. This package also comes with a number of military-themed appearance touches.

Jeep Gladiator Features

Jeep Gladiator

Serious Offroad Capability

The Gladiator is the world’s first Trail Rated® pickup, a new kind of vehicle for Jeep, but one that is imbued with everything that makes Jeep vehicles so great. You get the superb Rock-Trac® 4×4 System that carried the Wrangler to icon status, as well as a maximum fording depth of 31.5 inches. It is offered with a ground clearance of up to 11.1 inches, making it easy to clear obstacles, and the high level of articulation keeps all four wheels planted even when on even ground. The available front and rear Tru-Lok® Electronic Locking Differentials help to make sure the power goes to where it’s needed on rough terrain, and steel rock rails protect the underside of your Gladiator, both the body and the bed. On top of all of this, the Gladiator Mojave is the only Desert Rated Jeep vehicle, specially tuned for the heat and low-traction challenges unique to this sort of harsh environment.

Jeep Gladiator

Functional Versatility

For both pickup trucks and offroad vehicles, one of the keys to greatness is versatility and a long list of configuration options. Even the best offroad pickups from the competition don’t offer things like dedicated trims for rocky terrain, or for the desert, but the Rubicon and Mojave trims for Gladiator show just how well Jeep lets you dial in the exact vehicle that you need. This combination of offroad SUV and pickup means that it’s capable of thing that those vehicles which fit into only one of those categories cannot. It’s the only convertible pickup truck on the market, and the only one with a factory doors-off kit. It offers exceptionally good rear legroom for its class (better rear legroom than the Wrangler as well), and the whole cabin is full of useful storage options. While it’s certainly possible to buy another pickup truck and put offroad equipment on it, the Gladiator is the only pickup designed from the ground up specifically for offroading.

Jeep Gladiator Controls

Advanced Technology

Much of the greatness packed into the Gladiator is pretty straightforward, heavy-duty suspension, big offroad tires, and four driven wheels aren’t exactly revolutionary offroad technology. But what puts the Gladiator over the top is that Jeep built on this with technology that really is at the forefront. That means you have options like a forward-facing TrailCam, which displays what is right in front of your wheels on the Uconnect® touchscreen, making it easier to negotiate obstacles. Selec-Speed® Control holds the Gladiator at a consistent speed under especially difficult offroad situations, something that is extremely difficult for even the most experienced human drivers to accomplish. Lastly, the Gladiator also comes with an 8-speaker stereo, more than the other pickups in this segment, and there is an available 552-watt Alpine® Premium Audio System with 9 speakers and a 12-channel amplifier.
